The European Union Prize for Literature reveals 2022 Anthology

The EUPL Consortium, comprising the Federation of European Publishers (FEP) and the European and International Booksellers Federation (EIBF), leading the European Union Prize for Literature (EUPL), is happy to reveal the 2022 edition of its yearly European Stories publication: the EUPL 2022 Anthology.

Featuring excerpts from the winning books of the year in both original versions and in English or French translations, the EUPL 2022 Anthology aims to be a window into the worlds, countries and cultures of the 14 EUPL authors of the year and their exceptional works.

Jacobo Bergareche at the Malta Mediterranean Literature Festival

Jacobo Bergareche, EUPL 2022 Special Mention, is participating in two events of the 17th Malta Mediterranean Literature Festival, taking place from 24 to 27 August 2022:

  • On 24 August, he was interviewed by David Schembri on his participation in the EUPL
  • On 27 August, in Fort St. Elmo, he shared the stage with poets Julia Musakovska, Lamis Saidi and Adrian Grima

The Festival is also collaborating with Creative Europe Desk.

Raluca Nagy presents her book in EuropaNova Cultural Centre, Brussels

Raluca Nagy, EUPL 2022 nominee, presented her nominated book 'Teo de la 16 la 18 (Teo from 4 to 6)' in Brussels on Sunday, 31 July 

The event took place from 17:00 in EuropaNova Brussels, a cultural centre that aims to promote Romanian language and culture, as well as that of other countries in Balkan and Eastern Europe, within the wider Brussels region.

The event was moderated by Mirela Nita Sandu and took place in Romanian.

Bianca Bellová gives a reading in Brussels with the Czech Centre

Bianca Bellová will read parts of her EUPL-awarded book 'Jezero' (The Lake - Host, 2016) in the Citizens' Garden in Brussels. This reading, organised by the Czech Centre of Brussels, is part of the series Encounter with Czech Literature, which runs throughout the Czech EU Presidency.

This series will feature other Czech writers such as Alena Mornštajnová (22 September, Planetarium of Brussels), Petr Hruška (12 October), Markéta Pilátová & Jáchym Topol (30 November, Passa Porta).

Tadhg Mac Dhonnagáin to chair the Salon du livre insulaire in Ouessant

While the main theme of the 24th Salon International du livre insulaire (International Island Book Fair) is Ireland, the fair will be chaired by the writer recently awarded the European Literature Prize Special Mention for Madame Lazare: Tadhg Mac Dhonnagáin. The writer will be present for two talks:

Literary marathon with EUPL laureates at the Book World event in Prague

A ‘Literary marathon’ took place on 9 June, during the Book World Prague Festival.

A selection of EUPL laureates joined the event, representing the diversity of languages rewarded by the Prize: David Machado (Portugal, 2015), author of ‘Indice Medio de Felicidade’ (Average Happiness Index, Dom Quixote, 2013), Oddný Eir Ævarsdóttir (Iceland, 2014), who won the Prize with ‘Jarðnæði’ (Land of love; plan of ruins, Bjartur, 2011) and Antonis Georgiou (Cyprus, 2016), author of Ένα αλπούμ ιστορίες’ (An Album of Stories, Το Ροδακιό, 2014).

EUPL winners at the International Book Fair of Santo Domingo

The 24th International Book Fair Santo Domingo 2022 (Dominican Republic) will be held in Ciudad Colonial (Santo Domingo) from 23 April to 2 May. This year's theme is “Ven al libro” (Come to the book) and the special guest is the European Union.

As special guest, the EU will hold a pavilion which will be showcasing a collection of books by writers who have won the European Union Prize for Literature.

In addition, three EUPL laureates will come in person to the Book Fair this weekend (30 April - 1 May) to conduct interviews:
